Coast and Beaches

Pafos is the perfect place for swimming, scuba diving and snorkelling

With 27 beaches in the district open to the public, and 16 beaches boasting the Blue Flag award for high environmental and quality standards, Pafos is ideal for swimming, diving and snorkelling all year round.
What’s more, over 50 coastal hotels (whose beaches are mainly used by hotel guests) offer even greater peace and quiet

Blue flag beaches

The Blue Flag is a prestigious, international award scheme which acts as a guarantee that a beach or marina is one of the best in the world

The award of a Blue Flag is based on compliance with 29 criteria covering:

  • Environmental Education and Information
  • Water Quality
  • Environmental Management
  • Safety and Services

Some criteria are imperative (I), some are guidelines (G) and some are non-applicable (N/A) for certain regions.

All imperative requirements have to be fulfilled, and in addition there is a maximum number of guideline criteria. Blue Flags are only awarded for one season at a time. If some of the imperative criteria are not fulfilled during the season or the conditions change, the Blue Flag is withdrawn.
