Another European distinction for the “Destination Pafos”
European Silver Award “QUALITY COAST” as a Sustainable Coastal Tourism destination for 2022.
The area of Pafos is famous all over the world for its green nature and its crystal beaches. After the recent awarding of 18 Blue Flags throughout the province, Pafos has distinguished itself and managed to win the European Silver “QUALITY COAST” award for 2022 and be included among the top 100 “greenest destinations” in Europe.
The entire coastline of Pafos was recognized as the most attractive for visitors interested in combining holidays and enjoying nature in a destination with a magnificent landscape, which cares for and preserves the quality of the environment and follows practices to protect and highlight the local identity and cultural heritage.
The Silver award and a place in the list of the TOP 100 “greenest” coastal and island regions of Europe, honours Pafos but at the same time commits it to the continuation and improvement of the practices it follows. With this award, Pafos becomes even more famous for its unparalleled beauty, for its picturesque beaches and for its rich and rare vegetation, found especially in Polis Chrysochous and Neo Chorio area.
Basic criteria for the selection of the areas are the cleanliness of the waters, the biodiversity of the areas, their environment, actions for proper environmental behavior (e.g. conservation of natural resources), their socio-economic situation, their cultural heritage, the air pollution and noise levels, the quality of tourist infrastructure, safety, accessibility, easy access to information, etc.
