Akamas - Flora and Fauna
The flora in the district of Pafos, with a large variety of wild flowers (some of which are very rare) is of exceptional interest. Among common wild flowers which can be seen almost everywhere, are the following:
Lapsana (Sinapsis alba) with small, yellow rows of flowers. English name: Charlock.
Similloudi (Chrysanthemum coronarium) with nice, yellow flowers resembling daisies. English name:Crown daisy.
Lales (Anemone coronaria). English name: Crown or poppy anemone. They grow in a variety of colours.
Xinidin (Oxalis) with yellow flowers. English name: Cape Sorrel.
Arkoscordos (Allium neapolitanum) with white flowers. English name: Wild garlίc.
Rasin (Calycotome villosa). Α thorny bush with an abundance of pretty, yellow flowers. English name: Prickly broom
Ksistarka (Cistus sp.). With white or pink flowers. English name: Rock rose.
Kapparka (Capparis spinosa). Its flowers are beautiful, white with a pink stamen. English name: Caper.
Rare, wild flowers include a species of red wild Tulip (Tulipa Cypria) and several kinds of orchids (orchis). Also species of an endemic cyclamen grow in the Akamas area.
Among the shrubs common to Cyprus of special interest are: Mersine (Myrtus communis). English name: Myrtle. Latsia
